Fannish Fifty #5: Lego Streamers

For various reasons, during the lockdowns I got into the Lego Friends line of Lego, and now my house is... well, rather full of Lego. I've found myself watching Lego-themed streamers and vloggers on youtube quite a bit; I'll never have the space or money to put into building things like a large basement-sized Lego city, but I enjoy the streams. I thought I'd share a few of my favourites as part of my Fannish Fifty list.
Bricksie is a Canadian streamer who's been building a giant Lego city in his basement for some years now - even moving house at one point to get more space for Lego amongst other things. While his main focus is his Lego city, he also takes on projects like making a fancy island mansion from scratch, and making a themed winter village scene. I actually found his channel when I was looking for videos about using the Lego Pick a Brick walls, and have ended up following him on Youtube for a daily fix of Lego stuff. This video of him showing his work on his winter village diorama is one of my favourites:
Brickcrafts is a German youtuber who has a range of Lego passion projects he's working on, including a remarkably detailed Lego town based on somewhere near him and various big Lego dioramas on themes like the wild west, or a moonbase. His Lego models have gotten big enough that he's in the process of renting out a space to display them in a kind of living Lego museum, which astounds me. His building style is very different to Bricksie's, and I've really enjoyed his videos where he goes through the little plots hidden around his displays. I'm eagerly waiting for the next update video for his moonbase project:
High Tea Toys is a channel I started following relatively recently. This is a British streamer, which I like - a lot of the Lego streamers that the Youtube algorithm throws up are American or Canadian streamers with enormous Lego rooms, and I like the ocntrast of seeing a Lego enthusiast working in a space that's closer to what I've got for Lego. While Bricksie's stream is great for city building and Brickcrafts' stream is great for detailed, completely original displays, I like High Tea Toys' stream for reviews of sets, and videos exploring using lighting systems in Lego models. Here's a vid giving a tour of the Lego room:
I think one of the reasons I like these streams so much is that each streamer is really enthusiastic about what they're doing. There's something enchanting about watching people enjoying hobbies that they love. I also really enjoy seeing things like how they sort and store their parts, how they approach new builds, and just... how much fun they have with Lego.
And that reminds me that I really should ask
goodbyebird to recommend me a Lego icon or three...
