Warframe

I keep meaning to post more as I was gifted a paid account, but it turns out I don't have much of interest to talk about. So, I thought I'd share something I like.

There's a computer game called Warframe that I've been playing for about six months now; it's a third-person shooter MMO game, the only one of which I've really liked prior to this was Mass Effect 3. I'm not going to try and recruit anyone else to play, but I do enjoy it, and with this country doing it's best to look like a burning skip full of garbage floating away on a tidal wave, I'm trying hard to remember that there are things I enjoy.

I like Warframe for a number of reasons, one of which is how much the developers clearly love what they do, and how much they enjoy interacting with the player community, which is generally a nice crowd. (I've met a couple of unpleasant people, but far fewer than I expected). Warframe's been free to play since it first came online several years ago, and the devs keep adding new content. (By free to play, they mean that there are things you can buy using real money, but anything that has a material in-game effect can be earned by grinding away in game, at a reasonable rate, so it's not pay-to-win. I like that, in part because of how much of a contrast it is with other franchises...)

A couple of the side effects of having so much stuff to do in game, with more on the way, is that it can be really hard for new players to work out what on Earth they should be doing, and what direction they should try playing in, and a lot of people (like me) rely on the wiki to work out what sort of things to do next. You start out with trying to acquire more warframes, weapons and items to level up, but before long there are quests (optional and story-based), then there's psychic combat, space warfare missions, massive beastie hunting... it just goes on.

So, the devs decided that it'd be a good idea to start making it a bit easier to work out what's going on in the game and what the backstory is, and they hired someone to produce a new intro trailer for the game. The new trailer premiered at Tennocon, the big Warframe fan convention back in June, and I thought it was very cool - and it features a cute kubrow (kubrow basically being dogs a thousand years in the future). As I liked it, I thought I'd share it. It highlights that the game is pretty much all about being a space ninja telepathically piloting robot warrior suits...
