Short summary: My VidUKon 2020 Premieré, which was nearly a very angry vid. When I actually finished ripping files and getting everything ready for vidding, I realised that I didn't want my vid for VidUKon to be something angry, so I basically went as far as I could in the other direction; I tried to make something as light-hearted and joyful as I could get away with. Vidding Good Omens was fairly difficult, as I had to learn how to use a new vidding programme (I may finally be moving from Premiere Pro 2.0 to something more modern, so that I can use footage from varying sources rather than just straight DVD rips). [personal profile] teyla was a huge help at every stage, from stopping me from stabbing vegas with a fountain pen to making sure my vid actually made sense.

The visual pun about the "warm sweet knights" is entirely my own fault, though.

Short summary: My VidUKon 2019 Premieré, which is a direct result of my watching The Last Jedi and realising it was my Star Wars film. The film is all about how the lead characters have failed, and how they responded to that failure, and I realised that it was Luke's failures that really hooked me. Luke never finished his Jedi training, but ended up being single-handedly responsible for trying to ressurect the Jedi order after the fall of the Empire. He went from being a farmboy, to a celebrated hero of the rebellion, to a Jedi in training, to the only Jedi instructor - and failed.

With VidUKon over for the year - or at least, for the next couple of months - I thought I should try catching up with things I kept thinking I should do and never actually got around to. Ok, that's not uncommon for me, I accept :P

I was very lucky at VidUKon - I got showered with gifts by the lovely [personal profile] goodbyebird, and not just any gifts, but chocolate and Walking Dead stuff!

Pictures! )

The boxes are random TWD minifigs packs, and by blind chance - or with fearsome precognitive abilities - [personal profile] goodbyebird snagged me not just Herschel and Daryl, but also Daryl's bike. As you can imagine, I was chuffed to bits, although being a grown adult, I saved pushing Daryl around on his motorcyle on the table until I got home, because I need a certain amount of space before I start making brmmm-brmmm noises ;)

I'm VJing a vidshow at VidUKon 2016 dedicated to Fairy Tales. If you have any recs for vids based on fairy tale sources, I'd love to hear about them! There's a little over a week left for me to finish organizing the show, and while I've somehow got to fit everything into 45 minutes, the more agonizing the choices over what to show and what to drop, the better... So please, give me your recs!

For this year's VidUKon, [profile] m_a_r_i_k_s suggested to me that we try putting together a show dealing with abusive relationships, and the effects of abusive behaviour on those involved and those around them, with the relationships including not just those between onscreen characters, but also relationships such as that between show writers and their characters, show writers and their audience, and so on. It turned out to be a complicated show to put together in a surprising number of ways; thinning down the list of videos to include took hours, and that was after days and days spent hunting out vids we thought might work and pitching them to each other. the final downselection was particularly brutal, with several vids that one or both of us really wanted to include, but just not enough running time.

I debated listing some of the videos that didn't quite make it into the show, but decided that it wouldn't really be fair. I was a little surprised by how well the conversations with the various vidders went when it came to requesting permission to include their vids - I envisioned the conversations getting quite difficult when it came to explaining what the show was about and how it related to the various vids, but in every case where the topic came up, the response was along the lines of saying how interesting the show sounded. That was great in some ways - I'm never quite sure when pitching show ideas how well they might go down, particularly on subjects that would naturally lend themselves to being rather difficult. I'm very grateful to every vidder who agreed to have their vid shown - I think it worked well as a show, although I remember the various vids getting applause, and then silence at the end of the show itself. I'm not sure I've ever seen a show get silence as a response.

This was my premiere at this year's VidUKon, and I was something of a neurotic mess about making and submitting it, but Becka and GBB were very persistent in ensuring I didn't back down, and much to my surprise, I didn't burst into flame when it aired...

So, I'm fretting over the Vidder's Choice at VidUKon again. I'm VJing the show, so I should actually submit a vid for it. Unfortunately, I find it almost impossible to be objective about my own vids - each one I look at, I come up with reasons why I shouldn't include it, beginning with a lack of technical aptitude, inability to recognise a beat even if it's holding a sign, and poor clip choices, and then ranging through the spectrum to "ending doesn't work", "I doubt there will be any fans of that ship there", "I've already shown enough action vids" and so on.

Wrestling everyone else's vids into something resembling a playlist or two is much easier than submitting one of my own :P
brokenmnemonic: (Черно Альфа)
The official post with instructions on how to submit shows for VidUKon is up. I kind of want all of the show suggestions posted in the discussion thread to make it into the schedule, but then I want to see ALL THE VIDS.

I've been helping [profile] m_a_r_i_k_s put together her show on Abusive Relationships, which I'm hoping has a good chance of being accepted, and unless there are any offers from better VJs, I'm hoping I'll get to herd the various cats that make up the Vidder's Choice show.

That does make me wonder if it'd be bad form for me to offer to help with or collaborate on any other shows, though. I'm really keen for someone to submit a show on Video Game Vids (and I know [personal profile] beccatoria can hear me chanting "Code To Soul!" from thirty miles away), plus I think a show on Humans and Pets (or Humans and Animals with a strong bias towards pets and Appa) would be fun, but if I'm already assisting with two shows, at what point do I become the annoying demanding person who wants to be involved in everything?
