I discovered completely by accident that a new series called Zomboat started airing on ITV last week. The episodes are half an hour long, and follow four characters trying to escape from Birmingham during a zombie outbreak. It's definitely not the Walking Dead, and it made me laugh more than once. It's both very aware of what it is - and the topic of zombie films and their tropes comes up more than once - while at the same time displaying the incongruity of actually finding yourself in the middle of a zombie outbreak in modern Britain. Why is it called Zomboat? Well, haven't you always wondered if you could escape a zombie outbreak on a canal barge?

Your description makes me think of Shaun of the Dead and Zombieland, both of which I enjoyed for the sheer absurdity of it all.

There's definitely a Shaun of the Dead vibe from it, in a good way. Not as much of a Zombieland vibe, though - I think Zomboat has more enthusiastically embraced the range of reactions the average person would have to being in the middle of a zombie epidemic. And the characters are all charmingly average ;)

I'm happy to report that the third episode could've taken place in the Future Inn in Cardiff Bay, if the hotel had narrowboat access, and was appropriately daft. I'm definitely enjoying this show.
