VidUKon Shows
Mar. 5th, 2015 04:55 pmThe official post with instructions on how to submit shows for VidUKon is up. I kind of want all of the show suggestions posted in the discussion thread to make it into the schedule, but then I want to see ALL THE VIDS.
I've been helping
m_a_r_i_k_s put together her show on Abusive Relationships, which I'm hoping has a good chance of being accepted, and unless there are any offers from better VJs, I'm hoping I'll get to herd the various cats that make up the Vidder's Choice show.
That does make me wonder if it'd be bad form for me to offer to help with or collaborate on any other shows, though. I'm really keen for someone to submit a show on Video Game Vids (and I know
beccatoria can hear me chanting "Code To Soul!" from thirty miles away), plus I think a show on Humans and Pets (or Humans and Animals with a strong bias towards pets and Appa) would be fun, but if I'm already assisting with two shows, at what point do I become the annoying demanding person who wants to be involved in everything?

Date: 2015-03-05 06:23 pm (UTC)No! I had a similar dilemma about Wiscon last year. What I decided was, if my participating in putting another thing together was necessary to fill the schedule or get something submitted that otherwise wouldn't be, and it's not taking away from someone else who wants to participate, then DO ALL THE THINGS. Seriously. And if a show gets accepted and someone wants to help you put it together, you can always do that. In the end, I thought my over-participation was better than having something cool not on the schedule. And honestly, I think organizers get more invested and it makes sense if you end up contributing a little more, if there are some gaps?
I mean, I can't say I still didn't feel a bit weird during the con/show, when my name was all over everything, and I felt a bit like the demanding person who wanted to be involved in everything. But I don't think anyone else really noticed, and if they did, it was just to appreciate the contributions. So go for it! All the things!

Date: 2015-03-14 09:04 pm (UTC)So, I may be doing a lot of stuff, but it's not all just me, if that makes sense? And collaborating on a show is so much more fun than doing them alone. And if they aren't needed, then they aren't needed. And if they are... well, my Premieré's done (and is nothing but pure class and taste, honest) so I have the time.
Thanks again for the advice :) It really did help.
